Okay, so I wanted to check out the differences between LoHi and LoDo in Denver. I’d heard they were both cool, but in different ways, and I wanted to see for myself.
Hitting Up LoHi First
I started in LoHi. My main goal was to just wander around and get a feel for the place. I’d heard it was more residential and a bit trendier, with lots of new restaurants and stuff.
- Walked the streets: I literally just started walking. I parked a little ways off the main drag and just explored on foot.
- Checked out the architecture: Lots of modern buildings mixed in with some older, more traditional homes. It definitely felt like a neighborhood that was changing.
- Grabbed a coffee: I stopped at a random coffee shop—I can’t even remember the name, just some hip-looking place—and people-watched for a bit. Everyone seemed pretty young and stylish.
- Window shopped: Popped into a few boutiques. Super cute stuff, but definitely out of my price range.
The whole vibe was really relaxed and… well, “hip.” Lots of young families, people walking dogs, that sort of thing. I could totally see myself living there, if I could afford it!
On to LoDo!
Next up was LoDo. I knew this was more of the “downtown” area, with more history and more of a nightlife scene.
- Union Station: Okay, this was a must-see. I just walked around inside, admiring the architecture. So grand and impressive.
- Wandered around: Again, I just walked. It was more, like, brick buildings.
- Checked out the bars: It was still pretty early, but I could see how this area would be hopping at night. Lots of bars and restaurants with patios.
- Tried to find a bookstore: I know, weird. I ended up talking to a local who pointed me toward the next spot.
LoDo felt more… established. It was definitely busier, more tourists, more of a “city” feel. I liked the energy, but it felt a little less personal than LoHi.
Final Thoughts
Honestly, I liked both areas, just for different reasons. LoHi felt like a place I’d want to live, while LoDo felt like a place I’d want to go out in. They’re close enough that you could easily experience both, but they definitely have their own distinct personalities. I get why the difference between them is always a talking point!
