Okay, so I’ve been trying to make my travel habits a bit more eco-friendly, and one area I really wanted to tackle was where I stay. So, I started digging into this whole “energy-efficient accommodations” thing. It sounded kinda fancy, but really, it’s just about finding places that try to save energy.

Energy-efficient accommodations: Simple ways to find them!

My Hunt for Green Stays

First, I started looking for places that had things like solar panels. You know, those big things on the roof that suck up the sun’s power. I figured if a place was using solar energy, they were probably serious about saving energy. I spotted a few hotels and even some smaller guesthouses that talked about their solar panels on their websites.

Then, I started paying attention to the lighting. LED bulbs are way better than the old-school ones, using way less energy. So I checked if places mentioned using LED lights, I was like, “Okay, these guys are thinking about the small details.”

Checking Out the Amenities

I also started thinking about water usage. I mean, long showers are great, but they waste a lot of water. So, I started looking for accommodations that had low-flow showerheads and toilets. It’s a small thing, but it adds up. Some places even mentioned that they collect rainwater for things like watering the garden – pretty cool, right?

Another I looked for are those key card systems in hotels, you know, the ones where you have to put your key card in a slot to turn on the lights and AC? Those are actually pretty smart, because they make sure you’re not wasting energy when you’re not in the room.

The Results?

It took a bit of extra searching, but I managed to find a few places that ticked a lot of these boxes. My first stay was in this cute little guesthouse that had solar panels, LED lights everywhere, and even little signs reminding guests to conserve water.

I felt pretty good knowing I was making a slightly better choice for the planet. And honestly, it didn’t really feel any different from staying in a regular place. It was still comfy and convenient, but with the added bonus of being a bit more energy-efficient.

It’s not always easy to find the perfect eco-friendly option, but even making a few small changes to where you stay can make a difference. I’m definitely going to keep looking for these kinds of accommodations on my future trips!
