Okay, folks, let me tell you about my little adventure applying for a business visa to India. It wasn’t exactly a walk in the park, but I got through it, and you can too!

Getting Started: The Online Application
First things first, I headed to the official Indian government website. Make sure you’re on the right one, there are some dodgy look-alikes out there! I found the online visa application form – it’s pretty long, so set aside a good chunk of time.
I started filling it out, bit by bit. Name, address, passport details… the usual stuff. But then it started asking about my company, the purpose of my visit, who I’d be meeting in India, and all sorts of details. I made sure to have all that information handy before I started. My company’s registration number, address, the contact details of the people I was going to meet – all of it.
Gathering Documents: The Paper Chase
Next up, the documents. This is where things got a bit more involved. I needed:
- My passport, of course, with at least six months of validity left.
- A recent passport-sized photo. I got a new one taken, just to be safe.
- A copy of my company’s registration certificate. I had to dig this one out of our files.
- A letter of invitation from the Indian company I was visiting. This was crucial! I emailed my contacts in India and asked them to send it over. It needed to be on their official letterhead, with all the proper stamps and signatures.
- A letter from my own company, explaining the purpose of my trip and guaranteeing my financial support. I talked to my boss, and she helped me draft this.
- Proof of my address. Used a utility bill.
I scanned copies, made sure the photos fit the requested size.
Submitting the Application and Paying the Fee
Once I had double-checked everything (seriously, double-check!), I submitted the online application. Then came the payment. I paid the visa fee online using my credit card. It wasn’t cheap, but hey, that’s part of the process.

The Waiting Game (and the Interview)
After submitting, it was mostly a waiting game. I kept checking the online status of my application. After a few days, I received an email asking me to come in for an interview at the Indian Visa Application Center.
The interview was pretty straightforward. The officer asked me a few questions about my trip, my company, and the Indian company I was visiting. I answered honestly and calmly, and it all went smoothly. I made sure I brought all the original documents with me, just in case.
Success! Visa in Hand
About a week after the interview, I got another email saying my visa had been approved! I went back to the Application Center to pick up my passport, and there it was – my shiny new Indian business visa. What I thought at first, finally done!
It was a bit of a process, with a lot of steps and paperwork, but I made it happen. If I can do it, so can you! Just be organized, be patient, and follow the instructions carefully. Good luck!
