Okay, so I decided I wanted to visit Russia. First thing I needed was a tourist visa, and let me tell you, figuring it out wasn’t a walk in the park. But I got it, and I’m gonna share how I did it, step-by-step.

Figuring Out the Requirements
First, I started digging around online. You know, just randomly searching, reading different websites. It felt like a mess at first. I realized pretty quickly that I couldn’t just apply for the visa straight away. I needed something called a “Visa Support Letter” or “Tourist Invitation”. Basically, it’s proof that a Russian travel agency or hotel is inviting you.
Getting the Invitation
This was the trickiest part. I looked at a bunch of websites. Finally I found a company and chose one that was the most affordable. And I paid for the invitation online. It took a day, after I received it I could start with my application.
Filling Out the Application
I went to the official website. The application form was there, and I started filling it out. You know, basic stuff like your name, passport details, travel dates, where you’re staying in Russia, and so on. Just be super careful and double-check everything. I printed it out when I was done.
Gathering All the Documents
Besides the application and the invitation, I also needed my actual passport (obviously!), a passport-sized photo, and proof of travel insurance. Make sure your insurance is valid in Russia, by the way. I also made copies of everything, just in case.
- Passport: Made sure it was valid for at least six months after my planned trip.
- Photo: Got a new one taken, just to be sure it met all the requirements.
- Travel Insurance: Checked my existing policy and saw it did cover Russia.
Submitting Everything
I checked online whether I could send documents by mail, and after I realized I could, I prepared all the documents, packed them carefully into an envelope, and shipped them.

The Waiting Game
This was probably the hardest part. Just waiting. I kept checking my email for any updates. I received an email saying they got my application.
Visa in Hand!
Then finally, the email I’d been waiting for! My visa was approved, and my passport with the visa was ready. All I had to do was go to the nearest post office to collect it. I almost jumped for joy! After a few weeks I received my visa.
It was a bit of a process, but totally worth it. Just take it one step at a time, and don’t be afraid to ask for help if you get stuck. Good luck!
