Okay, so I wanted to figure out the holidays in Guatemala for a trip I’m planning. Here’s how I went about it, step-by-step.

Guatemala Holidays: Top Things to See & Do (2024)

Digging into Guatemala Holidays

First, I just did a simple search. I typed in “Guatemala public holidays” and saw what popped up.

The results gave me a pretty good overview. I could see a mix of familiar holidays and some that were unique to Guatemala.

I started making a list in a simple text document. I wanted to keep track of the dates and the names of the holidays.

  • New Year’s Day – January 1st (That’s a no-brainer!)
  • Holy Week (Semana Santa) – This one’s a big deal, and the dates change every year. I needed to dig deeper into this one.
  • Labor Day – May 1st,pretty common
  • Army Day-June 30th,got it!
  • Assumption of Mary -August 15th(important for Guatemala City, from what I read).
  • Independence Day – September 15th,big celebration.
  • Revolution Day-October 20th.
  • All Saints’ Day-November 1st.
  • Christmas Eve & Christmas Day -December 24th & 25th,of course.
  • New Year’s Eve-December 31th.

I found a few websites listing the holidays, and I made sure to compare them. Just to double-check I wasn’t missing anything. For the ones with variable dates (like Semana Santa), I searched specifically for “Semana Santa 2024 Guatemala” to get the exact dates for next year.

After compiling this list,I copy dates to my own calendar.I finally realised that is easy!
