Korean Wine for Beginners: Your Easy Drinking Guide.

Okay, so I’ve been seeing these “Korean wine” recipes all over TikTok and Instagram, and I finally caved. I had to try making some myself. It looked so refreshing and, honestly, pretty easy.

Getting Started

First, I gathered my ingredients. I didn’t have everything the “authentic” recipes called for, but I figured I’d improvise. Here’s what I grabbed:

  • Some random fruit I had lying around – mostly strawberries and a couple of oranges.
  • A bottle of soju (because, duh, it’s Korean, right?).
  • Some Sprite – because I saw some people using it, and I like bubbles.
  • Sugar – because, well, everything’s better with sugar.
  • A big jar – I used an old pickle jar, thoroughly washed, of course.

The Mixing Process

I started by chopping up the fruit into kinda-small pieces. Nothing fancy, just rough chunks. Then, I dumped all the fruit into the jar. It looked pretty colorful, so I was already feeling good about this.

Next, I poured in the soju. I didn’t measure, just eyeballed it until the fruit was mostly covered. Then, I added a good glug of Sprite – maybe a third of the jar? Again, no measuring, just going with my gut.

Finally, I spooned in a heaping pile of sugar. I probably used way too much, but oh well. I stirred everything around with a long spoon until the sugar seemed mostly dissolved. It was a bit of a mess, but it smelled pretty good!

The Waiting Game

Now for the hard part: waiting. I sealed the jar tightly and stuck it in the back of my fridge. Most recipes said to wait at least a few days, some even said a week! I’m not a patient person, so this was tough.

The Taste Test

Okay, I admit, I only waited three days. I couldn’t help myself! I pulled the jar out of the fridge, and it looked… interesting. The fruit had kinda sunk to the bottom, and the liquid was a cloudy pink color.

I poured some into a glass, added a few ice cubes, and took a sip. It was… surprisingly good! Sweet, fruity, and definitely boozy. It tasted like a really strong fruit punch. The soju flavor wasn’t overpowering, which was good because I’m not a huge fan of straight soju. I could do without the Sprite next time, though, because I only like a little fizz.

Honestly, I’d make this again. It’s a fun, easy way to make a big batch of something boozy and refreshing. Perfect for a party or just hanging out with friends. Just maybe don’t use as much sugar as I did!
