Okay, so I recently had to navigate Krabi International Airport, and let me tell you, it was… an experience. I figured I’d share my journey, start to finish, in case it helps anyone else.

Arrival and First Impressions

First off, I flew in on a domestic flight from Bangkok. Getting off the plane was pretty standard. We walked down the stairs onto the tarmac – no fancy jet bridges here, which is kind of cool in a way, you get that immediate blast of tropical air.

Then, it was a short walk to the arrivals hall. Honestly, it’s not a huge airport, so everything is pretty close together. The baggage claim area was… well, let’s just say it was functional. A few carousels, not a lot of seating. I grabbed my bag pretty quickly, thankfully, because I was ready to get out of there.

Navigating the Airport

  • Finding the taxi stand: This was a bit of a scramble. There were a bunch of people offering rides, but I wanted an official taxi. I asked around and eventually found the designated area outside.
  • Negotiating the fare: It’s Thailand, so you gotta haggle a bit! I had a rough idea of what it should cost to get to my hotel in Ao Nang, so I stood my ground and eventually we agreed on a price.
  • The signs: The signs were mostly in English and Thai, so there was no problem there.

Departure Woes (Slightly Less Woeful)

Leaving was a bit smoother. I arrived at the airport with plenty of time, which is always a good idea. Checked in my bag – the lines weren’t too bad, surprisingly.

Security was pretty standard. Took off my shoes, emptied my pockets, the usual drill. No major dramas there.

Once I was through security, there wasn’t a whole lot to do. A few small shops, a coffee place, the basic stuff. I grabbed a coffee and just chilled until it was time to board.

The Final Verdict

Krabi International Airport is not the fanciest airport I’ve ever been to, but it gets the job done. It’s relatively small and easy to navigate, even if it’s a bit chaotic at times. Just be prepared to haggle for your taxi, and you’ll be fine!
