So, the other day I was feeling a bit adventurous and decided to check out this whole “old gay men cruising” thing. I’d heard about it, you know, through the grapevine, and I was curious. Plus, I figured, why not? I’m not getting any younger, and it’s always good to try new things, right?

First, I had to figure out where to go. I did some digging around, asked a few friends who are more in the know than I am, and found out about a couple of spots that are supposedly popular. Parks, mostly. Seems like old-school cruising is still a thing. Who knew?

I picked a sunny afternoon and headed to one of the parks. I gotta say, I was a bit nervous. I mean, I haven’t done anything like this in ages. But I put on my best “I’m just here for a stroll” face and started walking around. I tried to look casual, you know, like I wasn’t really looking for anything. But my eyes were definitely scanning the area.

  • First encounter: Saw a guy sitting on a bench, reading a book. He looked up, our eyes met for a second, and I gave him a little nod. He just went back to his book. Okay, maybe he’s not interested. Or maybe I’m just rusty at this.
  • Second try: I walked a bit further and spotted another guy, kind of loitering near the bushes. This one seemed more promising. We made eye contact a few times, and I could tell he was checking me out too. I gave him a smile, and he smiled back. Alright, we’re getting somewhere.

I strolled over in his direction, pretending to admire the flowers or whatever. We ended up standing near each other, and I started making small talk. “Nice day, isn’t it?” Real smooth, I know. But it worked! We chatted for a bit, and it turned out we had a few things in common. He was a retired teacher, I’m a retired accountant. We both liked old movies. It was actually kind of nice.

One thing led to another, and we decided to take a walk together. We found a more secluded spot, and, well, you can probably guess what happened next. It was fun! It was a little awkward at first, but we both got into it. It’s like riding a bike, I guess. You never really forget how.

Afterward, we exchanged numbers and said we’d maybe meet up again. I don’t know if we will, but it was a good experience. It’s nice to know that even at my age, I can still have a little fun and excitement. And it’s kind of cool that this whole cruising scene is still around. It’s like a little piece of history, you know?

So, that’s my story about trying out old gay men cruising. It was definitely an adventure. Would I do it again? Maybe. It’s not something I’d do all the time, but it was a fun way to spend an afternoon. And who knows, maybe I’ll make a new friend out of it. Or at least have a few more interesting stories to tell.
