Honestly it started with me staring at this half-moon shaped pasta on some food show late one night. Couldn’t shake the thought – where the heck do you find fresh mezzelune around here? Decided right then I’d figure this out next day and document the hunt.

The Online Rabbit Hole First
Morning coffee in hand, fired up the laptop. Typed “best mezzelune near me” like a man possessed. Scrolled through pages of food apps. Big mistake. Most places listed either didn’t actually carry it or just served mezzelune dishes. Useless for buying the pasta itself. Got frustrated when one listing popped up promising fresh mezzelune – clicked it. That thing showed places in Italy! Nearly threw my mug.
Taking It To The Streets
Shoes on, keys grabbed, hit the pavement. Strategy? Hit all the spots that might have fancy pasta:
- Big Grocery Chain: Went straight to the pasta aisle. Nothing. Guy stacking tomatoes just shrugged.
- “World Food” Market: Trudged through aisles of spices and noodles. Found every pasta shape except mezzelune. Even asked the manager stocking couscous. He looked confused.
- Small “Artisan” Italian Deli: Felt hopeful walking in – smell of cheese and cured meat was strong. Took deep breaths. Racks of dried pasta lined up neatly. Looked. Looked again. Nada. Zip. Was about to give up when I spotted the small cooler case tucked near the back.
The Glorious Find
Walked over to the cooler, more out of habit than hope. And there it was. Hidden behind some fresh tortellini. Little plastic containers labeled “House-Made Mezzelune”. Grabbed two like they’d vanish. Checked out fast before something went wrong.
Got home, cooked some with sage butter. Chewy little pockets of heaven. Now I know exactly where my local mezzelune spot is. Forget the apps – find the place with the guy hand-stuffing pasta near the cheese counter. That’s the ticket.
