Alright, so I figured I’d share how I went about cobbling together my latest Vegas itinerary. It’s always a bit of a thing, right? You wanna have fun, but you also don’t wanna feel like you’re just wandering around aimlessly, or worse, missing out on stuff you really wanted to do. My previous trips were a bit… chaotic, let’s say. This time, I tried to be a bit more methodical, if you can call my process that.

Getting Started – The Brain Dump
First thing I did, literally, was grab a piece of paper. Old school, I know. I just started listing out everything that popped into my head when I thought “Vegas.” Shows, specific restaurants I’d heard about, pool time, maybe a bit of gambling – though I’m not a big high roller, more of a “let’s see how long this twenty bucks lasts” kind of guy. It was a real mess, just a jumble of ideas.
Then I thought about who was going. Just me? With my partner? A group of friends? That changes things massively. A romantic dinner for two is a different vibe than trying to coordinate ten people for a buffet. This trip was with my partner, so that narrowed things down a bit, made it easier to focus on stuff we’d both enjoy.
Tackling the Big Stuff: Flights and Hotel
Okay, flights. Ugh. I spent a good few evenings just watching prices, you know how it is. One day it’s X, the next it’s Y. I eventually just bit the bullet when I saw a price that didn’t make my eyes water too much. I didn’t go for the super early or super late flights this time. Learned that lesson the hard way – being a zombie on your first or last day isn’t fun.
Hotel-wise, location was key for me. I wanted to be fairly central on the Strip. I’ve stayed off-Strip before to save a few bucks, and honestly, the amount I spent on Ubers kind of negated the savings. Plus, it’s just nice to be able to walk out and be in the middle of things. I read a bunch of reviews, mostly looking for comments on cleanliness and noise. You don’t want a party raging next door when you’re trying to sleep, unless you’re the one raging, I guess.
Nailing Down the Fun: Shows and Activities
This is where it gets tricky because Vegas has SO. MUCH. STUFF. Seriously, it’s overwhelming. I went back to my initial brain dump list and started to prioritize.

- Shows: We picked one big Cirque du Soleil show. We’d both seen a couple before, so we looked for one that was new to us. Booked that in advance, for sure. Those things sell out.
- Food: This is a big one for us. I made a list of maybe 5-6 restaurants we were interested in, ranging from a fancy dinner spot to a good burger joint. I didn’t make reservations for all of them, just the fancy one. The rest, we figured we’d play by ear. You gotta have some flexibility.
- Pool Time: Absolutely essential. I actually checked what the pool scene was like at the hotels I was considering. Some are super chill, others are like day clubs. We wanted something in between.
- Other Stuff: We penciled in things like walking through specific casinos to see the decor, maybe hitting up a particular bar with a cool view. Nothing too rigid.
I found that trying to schedule every single hour is a recipe for stress. Vegas is also about spontaneous moments. You might be walking past a lounge and hear some great music, or decide on a whim to try a different casino for a bit.
Putting It on Paper (Well, a Doc)
Once I had the main anchors – flights, hotel, a couple of key reservations – I started to put it into a rough daily outline. Something like:
Day 1: Arrive, check in, explore the hotel, casual dinner nearby, maybe a low-key bar.
Day 2: Pool time in the morning, lunch, walk the Strip, early dinner, BIG SHOW!
Day 3: Bit of a sleep-in, nice brunch, explore a different part of the Strip or downtown, fancy dinner reservation.

And so on. Super basic, but it gave us a framework. I made sure to leave big chunks of “free time” in there. That’s important. You don’t want to feel like you’re rushing from one scheduled thing to another. That’s not a vacation, that’s a military operation.
The Reality Check
Here’s the thing about any Vegas itinerary: it’s more of a guideline than a strict rulebook. Things happen. You might be more tired than you thought, or something you planned might not be as cool as you hoped, or you discover something amazing you didn’t even know about. We had a couple of things on our list that we just… didn’t get to. And that’s okay. The point was to have a loose plan so we weren’t just standing around going “So, what now?” all the time.
Honestly, the planning itself can be a bit of a chore, sifting through options, trying to make everyone happy if you’re in a group. But having that rough outline made the actual trip way more relaxing. We knew we had our main things covered, and the rest was just bonus. So yeah, that was my process. Not exactly rocket science, but it worked for us this time around. Hopefully, it gives you some ideas if you’re trying to wrangle your own Vegas adventure!
