Okay, folks, let’s talk about avocados. I’ve been trying to eat a bit healthier lately, and avocados keep popping up as this “superfood,” right? But I’m also counting calories, and I was curious about the whole thing so I did a little experiment.

My Little Avocado Experiment
So, I went to the grocery store and bought a bunch of avocados – big ones, small ones, you name it. Today I was focused on the small ones, wanted to see just how many calories these little guys pack.
- First step: Get a small avocado. I weighed a few of them, and most were in the 70-80 gram range. Seems like my target.
- Second step: Checked the reliable old USDA website. Turns out, they say a small avocado (they consider small ones around 150 grams) contains about 234 calories, I think it’s too big to be a “small” one.
- Third step: Got some different answers online. One site said 160 calories, another said 80, yet another said 130-150 and even one said around 110-120 for a 70-80 gram avocado. It’s all over the place!
I even tried to break it down by macros. Like, one place told me it’s 20% carbs, 76% fat, and 5% protein, and another place said it’s 33% carbs, 34% fat. But I wasn’t going to measure all that myself.
My conclusion? I ate that small avocado. It was delicious. And you know what? I’m not gonna sweat the exact calorie count. I figure, it’s healthy fat, it’s filling, and it’s way better than some of the junk food I used to eat. I’d say a small avocado is probably somewhere between 110-160 calories, maybe even up to 234 if it’s on the bigger side of “small.” But the bottom line is: it’s good for you, so enjoy it!
I’m gonna keep experimenting with different sizes and see what’s up. Maybe I’ll even get fancy and try to figure out the whole carb-fat-protein thing myself. Who knows? But for now, I’m just happy to have a tasty and healthy snack in my life.
